Finding Awesome Stories

Your Next Read is a site that allows readers to search through popular books or a favorite title to discover other books that may be interesting. It is designed like a mind mapping tool, linking to other books in the same genre or area of interest. It also allows users to search general fiction, cultural interest, professional reading, and childrens books. Users may create a sign in and save their searches, or use the tool anonymously.

Listen Up!

If you'd rather listen to a book, LibriVox offers nearly 8000 books in the public domain which are read by volunteers, and can be downloaded, burned to a CD, or used as an MP3. Because they are public domain books, they are generally classic books. LibriVox books are great to listen to for long trips, or for those who may have reading challenges.

What Does My State Offer?

Did you know that there are (at least) 27 authors from the Twin Counties area?  "The mission of the North Carolina Literary Map is to highlight the literary heritage of the state by connecting the lives and creative work of authors to real (and imaginary) geographic locations." Using the NC Literary map, readers can access books and writing by local authors that refelct NC culture and flavor. Browse by author, area, book, or genre.  Library patrons will find NC authors grouped together in the rear of the library. Enjoy the offerings from your home state!

The Internet is a Beautiful Place...

Internet Archive hosts a wealth of resources, including video, audio, and texts, as well as archived web pages. Particularly good for historical and academic resources, it is browsable by content format, as well as searchable.
